Prince K (1998) video / mixed media
In 1998, I had graduated and started coming to Lebanon more frequently after many years in France. A close friend, Wadih Safieddine, had written a in-depth theatrical project on a prince inspired by Heliogabale Elagabalus, referencing his extreme vices. Interested by this persona and what was happening post war, I created the video Prince K.
On my trips to Lebanon, I absorbed so many details – in experiences, newspapers and publications. I created a series of collages on the ruins from the war and this small video about the new Lebanon who was being born. As a witness of this time period, it marked a turning point in my relationship to the history, memory and geography of a place who was subject to a rapid evolution.
